Just been speaking to Ash Nath. He tells me that the Lakhimpur Volunteer Rifles was formed on 3 Nov 1882, it was a very small unit with only 13 vols on strength in 1893. It was re titled Lakhimpur Mounted Rifles in 1888. Its descendent regiment was the Assam Valley Light Horse, which was disbanded in 1947.

Henk, the info matches.

So a really rare badge by the looks of it.

To be honest I found this (of course) by Googling and got:

The badge again
Must be rare, but at least two of them. No idea what it is worth though.

Just like buses. You wait for ages and then two come along together!!

Thanks so much for sharing. Mine is Silver. At least it is marked silver. Ash Nath says that he has also seen a gilt version.

Lakhimpur:
Clanfield sold one for GBP 150 last year in the minutes I was dithering.

Chris Kempton's Book 'The Regiments and Corps of the HEIC & Indian Armies -
Volunteer Forces' has the details of the LVR lineage - and for almost all of the others.
Histories, maps, notes.
(A very few obscure units missing in the book though)

LVR ( Teak ) to AVLH ( Tea ) 'trade' transit
