Hello Simon,
Doubtless, you must have a particular interest in the Jullundur Brigade!
Regards Frank

Indeed, I suspect a certain Ishroulch Shmeilowitz and his comrades, these latter, included a member of my own family!

Hello Peter,
I'm so sorry, I missed your post, I hope you can see the photographs, this is a silver officers forage cap badge of the 19th Lancers (Fanes Horse) this particular one is by Gaunt, as you would expect and has sixth cycle Birmingham hallmarks for 1917.
Regards Frank

Thanks, Frank. A lovely example too! For some reason, yesterday my computer would not let me see the photo, so I was rather at a loss, particularly with the cryptic nature of the post's title.

Hello Peter,
The cryptic title was just a comment of surprise simply because I had not noticed this section before!
I always had a particular interest in European Officers of the Imperial Indian Army, in particular, the Bengal Cavalry, their subalterns must have been rather bewildered by the number of uniforms required, but, even just their basic everyday Service Dress looked magnificent, in particular, when shoulder chains were worn.
Kind regards Frank

" their subalterns must have been rather bewildered by the number of uniforms required."

I believe Skinner's Horse at one point had 12 orders of dress for BOs: full dress mounted with troops [turbanned], dismounted with troops [ditto], mounted without Indian troops [cap, not turban]... and so on. Not only confusing but blessed expensive, but they did look magnificent!

Dress uniforms of modern Indian Army cavalry [armoured] regiments. This gives one at least a flavour of the uniforms of the Raj.

Thanks Paul,
I've always found these very attractive since a school boy, think "The lives of a Bengal Lancer" by Yeats Brown, then there was Gary Cooper in the subsequent film!
Kind regards Frank

Henk

Sadly, no caption that I recall. I'm sure I would have noted and kept it. This photo came from news coverage of this year's Republic Day parade in New delhi and I know that at least one and probably more of the units are former States Forces so I don't even think there is one man per regiment of the pre-47 units and the detective work needed to ID them all is more than my poor brain can contemplate.
