Bristol Grammar School Cadet Corps badge
I recently got this badge amongst a lot of OTC/CCF/ACF insignia connected with Bristol/Avon. I have checked through AlanO's albums and whilst I can see BGS OTC/JTC/CCF badges exist, I cannot find a BGSCC version. I know the school concerned had a CC unit up until approx 1908, so am I to assume this is a pre-1908 badge? I welcome any information, thank you.
The badge is made of white metal, with brass loops and gold coloured brazing. There is no trace of any gilding, and it is crisp in detail. |

BGSCC was affiliated to the 1st Volunteer Bn of the Gloucesterhire Regt in 1900. It was usual for the CC to wear VB badges although there were a few with their own badge. The CC circa 1900 wore Field Service Caps with VB Collar badges. Some adopted the slouch hat following the post-Boer war fad seen in the VBs and IY.
However some schools ran CC for younger boys in addition to OTCs so it could post date 1908 by some decades. |
