New addition to the collection
Just arrived... A Union of South Africa officers gilt coat of arms badge made by Jennens (stamped J&Co on obverse).
Have been after this badge since I first saw one sell on EB.. about 10 years ago. That was the only one I had ever seen until this one came up on auction recently and at double the original price of the EB.. one. I was surprised to see the size 50mmX40mm. Bigger than the standard coat of arms badge used as a rank badge. It has two screws with nuts on the back so I believe is a pouch badge. It was sold as an Engineer Corps badge, but I believe it may be more generic than that. Possibly an early Union Defense force (c.1910 - 20) Permanent Force officers full dress pouch badge. If anyone has seen one before or has a more positive ID, please share... Steven |
