My understanding of the hallmarked collars is nobody seems to know what they are for just that they exist

I have been told that this a Far East Slouch hat badge but I have not seen this in writing

Although I also collect metal shoulders the cloth ones are often included in boxes of badges ect. and they do break up the display if anyone sees something that is wrong please say

I thought to finish with this not a badge but my fathers cousin gave it to me many years ago it seemed to mean a lot to him he was one of the Far East Prisoners of War

The T6 has been repaired I have seen shoulders with no T just the numbers I assume the T was removed when it was decided that the territorials were allowed to assume the regulars honors and this is one of those reconverted

Interesting to see the hallmarked collars, what are the dates on the hallmarks. I have one, shown here: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...light=Suffolk; and thought it might be a small officer cap badge, for service dress. That would make more sense to me because wouldn't a change in collar badge design have some sort of record? Maybe they were specially made, something like the Liverpool Pals badges?
Cheers,
Alex

That XXI badge is interesting. Is it shoulder title size or larger? The Suffolks normally wore a yellow cloth castle on the FSH since the very early 1900s. I believe possibly on the slouch hat as well? I don't know about the red backing as I would expect yellow, or yellow and red.

I presume you mean XII It's a normal shoulder title size the red felt can't be taken off as the lugs have been squashed so the holes are not big enough, Burma has been mentioned

Hi alex
Churchills infantry collar badge book states they are a mystery mine came together and both dated 1913 they can be between 1910-18 But the collars with XII are unofficial tropical mess dress and were not recognized officially until 1956 so the regiment has form, maybe some sort of mess dress

Hi Neil
What I find odd is that they were made by Carringtons, which means they must have been a special order, so it seems strange that there is no record. I'm sure somewhere in a dusty folder there must be some reference to them. Some OC must have made an order for them and approved their use, which is why I assume it must have been for a special purpose. Interesting!
Cheers,
Alex
