Not an awful lot I can add. Field Marshall Lord Roberts assumed overall command in South Africa from General Buller in December 1899 following the early defeats and Black Week.
In February 1900 the siege of Kimberley was lifted and a big victory won at the battle of Paardeburg where General Cronjé surrendered and was taken prisoner with over 4000 men of his commando. He was held in very high regard by the British public and establishment. It appears the British Museum have one of these but not much information on it: https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/term/BIOG77539 |
