Irish Volunteers Button makers
Hi all,
I have seen these buttons identified as Irish Volunteers dating from 1916 through to the 1960s but have found little about the manufacturers. Mine is I think J & E M Co Ltd with a further round mark that I cannot make out clearly. Any info on makers ? Cheers Dean |

Hello Dean
Your button is the standard issue for the Irish Defence Forces, although it was indeed used originally by the 'Irish Volunteers' pre First World War I believe. The button was issued in brass well into the 1960s/70s and can be found with many different backmarks. I have not come across your backmark before though. Regards Roger |

Thanks both for the additional information,
So many facets to our hobby as exemplified by this one button. Happy to swap for a silver badge to a northern light infantry regiment with one of the finest cathedrals in all of England. Cheers Dean 😝 |

Hi I have a more worn button with this maker. I thought that it was originally white netal as the surface is very tarnished which makes me this that it is quite old. Found no other information on the maker!
