RASC Cap Badge Converted To Photo Sweetheart.
Can a RASC guru determine which "type" of RASC cap badge this is please, the "variation" amongst King George V - King George VI badges?
The soldier in the photo is wearing SD Cap, SD Tunic with collar badges and Greatcoat, the closest I can get to dating that is 1920's - 40's. Of course, dating the photo wouldn't necessarily give a more specific date for the badge. |

Thanks, just wondered if it might be possible to ID the variation by die, size and positioning of the crown, that sort of thing, haven't got "The Empires Waggoners" to hand.

It was some years before the GVR badge was worn because the stocks of the previous ASC ones were huge after WW1. So as a result the GVR badges are rather scarce and I doubt many were worn before the late 20's or even the early 30's. The uniform is pre 1940 so that gives you a ten year window or so if the badge and photo are of the same period.

Thank you.
As an aside, I've just found out that there's a supplement to "The Empires Wagoners", bought it a few minutes ago. |
