Wink Lambourne Marked 2nd VB Norfolk badge

Hi all,

Now don't get too excited. Here is a Lambourne marked 2nd VB Norfolk Regiment bimetal cap badge. Lambourne marked badges are well known to the Norfolk regiment. They are not well made badges as a general observation and the makers mark is on a standard width or narrow slider from my readings on the Forum. The Lambourne mark has disputed authenticity when the 'o" in "Co" is not underscored as referenced under the Makers Mark section of the Forum. This one has no underscored 'o'.

This general style of the regular Norfolk regiment cap badge was worn 1898-1937. Volunteer Battalion badge would have generally been worn 1898-1908. They are generally in white metal for ORs and silver plate or silver for Officers. I am only aware of the Yorks and Lancaster VB badges in bimetal but these are reversed metals.

So it would be unusual to have a VB badge in BM. A 2nd VB Norfolk badge is shown in Gaylor and no metal type ascribed to it but those that are they are all white metal. Sliders are known on some VB badges from introduction in 1903-long and 1906-shorter and some VB badges were worn post-1908.

Just my ramblings, cheers Dean.

I classic fake/fantasy badge with the wrong type of construction and metals as you say; with a dodgy mark to boot.

Indeed thanks Alan and I couldn't find a thread about VB Norfolk badges nor one in an album. I did see a silver VB Norfolk cap badge on a dealers site and it was lugged.

Cheers Dean

The faker used the same figure of Britannia with differing overlaid scrolls.

Thanks and noted Alan,

I have seen most of the common fake/fantasy badges but out in the colonies the frequency is less. This was my first taste of VB Norfolk badges and it was priced low enough to be educational to me and I hope now members, cheers Dean.

I have two Lambourne badges KLR Patt 4362A/1896 - probably wartime productions. The badges are almost identical (there are very distinct Lambourne types) but have different markings
LAMBOURNE’S / BIRMINGHAM
LAMBOURNE & Co / BIRMINGHAM

(the second one has an underscore line below the o of Co but the formatting got lost as I copied it here !!)

They both appear genuine to me !!

Sorry, just noted Andy's album of Lambourne marks !

Thanks Andy and Julian for the additional information.

Andy I skimmed through your splendid Norfolk album on my phone and skipped over your VB badges sorry. I read the first thread but the second I had missed with a limited search tag. Thanks for referring me to them most helpful.

I have seen both Lambourne markings Julian indeed on what I believe to be genuine badges.

Cheers Dean
