Default Leeds Pals brooch

Hello All, thought I would share this recent acquisition Leeds Pals brooch, from I believe their time at Suez. It’s a large brooch, possibly adapted with the addition of the pyramid and Pals badge. Hope you like it as much as I do!
Regards, Bill.

Hi Bill

Nice brooch. I once spoke with a retired jeweller who had served in the Middle East.

He said that the filigree work like this was made by little boys who twisted and then soldered the wires using a fine solder powder. It's an absolute terror to repair as a flame will just melt it he said.

I have seen these with a crudely stamped plate to the rear that says "Made in Palestine"

Love the item totally but puzzled why the Leeds budgies are on the back where the pin is? Is the centre reversable? Front appears to have the pyramids depicted.

Yes, pyramids and palm tree, maybe the Pals badge is on the back just because there isn’t a proper place on the front for it, I don’t know. The Pals motif is much nicer under a loupe, lots of detail, but my camera just cant pick it up.
Regards, Bill.
