Memorial Plaque
I finally managed to take this image today. The second plaque I never noticed until today.

Unfortunately "Glen Parva" has always meant "Young Offender's Institute" to me, I was aware of its history as a barracks (a clue being that it's in Tiger's Road) but only ever went there when it was a YOI.
I think there was a TA unit based in Tiger's Road? So many of these old military establishments have met a sad end, sometimes a squalid, lingering demise. |

As far as I remember the home HQ 9th/12th Lancers used to be there. I think there could well be a Yeomanry Sqn in there, presumably the Leicestershire and Derbyshire Yeomanry. |

I have a vague recollection that back in 1969-1970 my army pay was administered by the Regimental Pay Office Leicester located at Glen Parva Barracks, Wigston, Leicester.
It was £22 per month before deductions (barrack damages, haircuts etc)! Tim

Yep, head straight down Tiger's Road and you come to it.
It's years since I've been there, I was never a guest, only nipped in and dropped them off there....... |

You had haircuts? But weren't you a Tankie?

It's now closed down and has been demolished. No wonder I couldn't see it.

Beautiful plaque. After 1960 Glen Parva Barracks continued to train recruits for the Leicesters and the other regiments of the Forester Brigade.
