Default 14th Hussars

From Simon Lewis - BRITISH ARMY CAP BADGES.

This is from the Boys Own annual 1920-21. It shows the 14th Hussars with the Royal Cypher Cap badge. Does anyone know when did they revert back to the Hawk?

Asking for a friend.

Many thanks for any comments.

As far as I am aware: never.

The 14th King's Hussars merged in 1922 with the 20th Hussars to become the 14th/20th Hussars.

This regiment took "the hawk" as badge in 1931.

Those are the Regimental Cyphers ,sort of thing youd find on letterheads etc.
They differ from the cap badge. In modern times, the QRL cypher had the motto backed with crossed lances, the cap badge doesnt have the lances.

Hi

Well, actually that's not quite true. The 14H and 20H did of course amalgamate in 1922 but were in fact a composite Regiment until 1929.

In c.1926 the two 14H Squadrons B & C unofficially reintroduced a Prussian Eagle Cap Badge in gm. with FR on its breast.

In 1929 the 1st pattern 14/20H was introduced which was effectively the 1919 pattern with 14/20th Hussars on the scroll in stead of 14th Hussars. I suspect this was not well received, but as you've said in 1931 the 2nd pattern for the 14/20H was issued, an eagle(Hawk)Cap Badge gm. but with no FR on its breast.

I hope that's of help/interest.

Rob
