Badgecollector,
Looks at bit messed about with on the back, all I can really say is that Bosley`s had one in their May 2005 Postal auction ( Lot 617 ) guide price £100-£150. P.B.

This is one of the few Irish Badges I've never owned so cannot comment on the back. It looks good if not a little battered. Here's my genuine example library picture see what you think.

get some more opinions to be certain. These are rare badges the two genuine ones that I have handled (Armagh Light Infantry and Carlow Rifles ) both had loops north and south. These are being copied I saw a Carlow rifles re-strike with loops east & west. Seek out "deejayvu" I think he has some experience with the Irish Militia Glengarry badges. For info there are (at least) two versions of this badge one with motto correctly spelled "Prudens et Serpens" and one mis-spelled "Prudens ut Serpens" depending on the sale they more usually fetch between 200 - 250 GBP John Last edited by John Mulcahy; 18-03-08 at 01:35 AM. PB, The one I had was a blackened version with slightly polished highlights. However, the front and back were very crisp. I agree with PB, the crown on this one does look bit odd (a bit like the proportions of the much faked QVC 5DG badge) - but yours could be because it has been strengthened etc. I have to say that the back on this one doesn't look good. The Irish Militia badge where the finish at the front and the back are supposd to be a bit on the "rough" side, was the Roscommon Milita. My KR was sold at W&W years ago, but I spent a lot of time checking them - even now, I can recall that it was a nice, sturdy, crisply finished badge - and made a good price at W&W. Like everyone else on this forum, I wish I had kept the lot.. Rgds, David |

A bit dodgy. I think it's the colour that is putting me off. Course it could also be the picture. The one's I have seen are a bit more "brassy" like the one posted by Tyneside.
