Unknown Drummer Epaulettes?

Anyone any idea on these please? I will be moving them on in due course, either here on eBay - they are definitely outside of my collecting area. They have been 'knocking about' in a box of mine for at least the last 15 years.... (and its time for that clear out to begin!!)

....the badges seem to be Australian from what I can find on the web - so off to eBay they go.

I don't know what makes you think that they are Aussie, Ive never seen anything like this in over 40 years of collecting Aussie badges.

"Diggerhistory" website shows various drummer badges ,

Cloth Trade badges of the Australian Army

but also states that "Many of the trade badges worn by the British Army were also worn in Australia."

There is also an "Army Recruiting Poster showing proficiency badges worn on No.2 dress 1984" showing some British drummer badges.

The badge is very similar to this one (from Australian 'Gumtree' advert) described as :

"Circa 1960, the Australian Army Ceremonial Parade Dress and General Duty Dress changed from Jungle Green to a Khaki Polyester uniform."

" The Drummer Badge depicts a machine embroidered rope tensioned drum on a khaki polyester background. The badge measures 45 mm x 50 mm. This badge was worn by members who had qualified as a corps drummer. This badge was worn on Khaki Polyester shirts.

These badges were worn on Khaki Polyester Shirts circa 1960 until the 1980s and were replaced by new styles of embroidered badges. "

Thanks Mike - that is what the website I found (and is linked to in the above post) provides as attribution. I have no hesitation in thinking that they have been added to the epaulettes for another (non-military?) reason but the badges seem an identical match to those you have found.

Sorry I missed the link in the word Australian. However the drum badges shown on the link would all be worn on the sleeve and not on some form of spurious red epaulette. I was reacting to the badge on the epaulette rather than the badge with a drum on it.

Whilst the badge its self may be Australian the badge on the very chatty looking red epaulette probably has no military use what so ever and may have been used as some sort of theatrical costume.

Thanks for that - theatrical was something I hadn't thought of, but it seems a good conclusion. I've listed them on eBay at the moment (will happily take them off if anyone here is interested) and if they dont go I'll likely remove them from the epaulettes and move them on as a pair.
