Another clue is that at least some of these would appear to be coloured using resin colour (the colour tends to sink below the surface of the badge). Also when dark blue was used on a badge, there was a tendency to use a transparent blue and many of these have opaque shades.
A good point in your guide is the mention of even lettering and you will observe most of the letters have rounded terminals, a sign that these have been pantograph cut. The latter point is equally valid for cap and collar badges that are struck from a newly made die.
