Default The Royal Yeomanry

Hi All

Can anyone explain this? Firmin have labeled their sealed packet for the Royal Yeomanry Cap badge with slider (third issue).... as an Officers cap badge? The Officers do not actually wear the metal badge..... they wear a bullion wire cap badge in their dress cap (by Hand & Lock) and a wool version in their beret. Only Other Ranks wear the metal badge (in all Squadrons now)..... so why would Firmin label it as such?

Griff,
Possibly because of confusion over the JSP descriptions......

Also something I found related to this .In the IWM collections a Royal Yeomanry badge labelled as anodised:-
http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/30067143
I doubt whether it is actually anodised. More likely to be New Metal silver.

From the description..... its a brass base thats been plated with nickel silver?

What is a "Vertical Hook fitting" (as seen in the JSP image)? Do they mean a slider?

The ORs badge only exists in the "new metal"...... not AA.

Right..... from one of my own ...... "Originally these were for dress hats for Officers the Beret version had a loop and Pin to attach". The large first issue type..... that was then given out to the ORs whilst the Officers converted to the bullion wire

The large first Issue (looped N/S with cotter pin):-

It is ...isnt it. The boys still have their LDYPAO Patch badge sewn on the inside of the beret.

Griff, Is the badge backing adopted from The Sherwood Rangers Arm Badge? (2" Dorset Green square)?

I think so..... the Green Mafia appear to have got their way on most things. Saying that ....Forester Green is seen in the colours of many Yeomanry regiments. The thing that annoys is that the rest of the RY Squadrons are scarlet cap (Hussar)....... we are not "Riflemen". We are in this horrible situation of seeing the Guidons being carried in Squadron blues with Rifle green caps. I dont mind change..... as long as its done properly and fully resourced. The feeling is that as long as we have our Guidons then Guidon party full dress should be correct to the Guidons Badge...... Green caps in RY No2s. There is talk of a new RY Standard/Guidon that incorporates all the Squadrons battle honours and badges..... if that happens then the Regiment should have new "RY" blues to go with.

BTW, the new buttons have arrived and we now have a proper belt buckle.

Good to see...It seems the modern day Yeoman still has to make-do with bits & pieces in respect of accoutrements. More and more photographic evidence of Yeoman using out-of-date badges leads to the statement...never rule-out badge use just because official documents say something different. The rule book goes out of the window in many cases for Yeomanry units.

We have had to "make do" over the past 20 years..... the only funding we ever got was for that cheap patch badge. Everything else has had to be purchased by us as individuals or donated back to the Squadron from Old Boys or other sources. Sad really.

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for the 2nd version Royal Yeomanry hat badge if anyone happens to have a spare for trade or sale.

Height - 35mm

Regards,
