The Passing of Forum Members
When a fellow forum member passes away, many of us here tend to pay our respects by posting within a designated thread. The most recent example I am aware of would be Roger ‘Cribyn’, just a few weeks ago.
Often, those who have passed away were people (friends, even) with whom many of us shared a great deal of time; sometimes years, and sometimes not just forum hours but as actual friends in the real world, so to speak. Dave C. being one such example for many here. We were (and still are) all beneficiaries of Roger’s and Dave’s generosity and knowledge, as we are with other contributing members who are sadly no longer with us. I was wondering if it might be a fitting gesture if the forum were to make a slightly more ‘official’ acknowledgment whenever we learn of members passing away? Nothing over-the-top or distasteful, but some kind of subtle gesture to mark our collective acknowledgment and respect. This might manifest itself in a number of ways if deemed appropriate. Perhaps subduing the forum banner for a day or two (as per example below); perhaps adding a small, separate remembrance section containing the names/usernames of deceased members; possibly a designated sub-forum where threads such as the one notifying us of Roger’s death could be submitted. Perhaps none of the above would be appropriate, perhaps the whole idea is inappropriate, but I thought it worthy of discussion. Regards, JT Last edited by Jelly Terror; 24-04-19 at 03:15 PM. One of the things I love about the forum is how people I have never met engender respect and friendship through our common interest.

It always amazes me, when someone I know dies, just how much I didn’t know about them.

It may also be nice if something was done to their avatar and user page, nothing to spoil what they have left behind but now a member in a better place or something.

A great idea JT,
Speaking for myself when a forum 'friend' dies I'm at a loss and in shock, something like this would help with the grieving process we often feel. Something to honor them and their contribution to our passion would be very fitting. Roy

Maybe a blackband could be added to their avatar like the ones US cops have on their badges in respect. I know this would take time and be another job for the probably already overburdened admins. I would be fitting though.
