The CCF in 1965
The following images are from a booklet I picked up a couple of days ago. The booklet is titled "The Combined Cadet Force - An information leaflet describing the opportunities open to those entering the teaching profession to serve as officers in school contingents of The Combined Cadet Force".
It lists the CCF Contingents in existence as at 1st August 1965. Many of these contingents (approximately 60) disappeared as part of the educational reforms in 1974 when many Grammar Schools became (shudder) "Comprehensive" Schools. PL |

PL,
Thanks for posting. My School contingent is listed there (and is still there!) and I was in Merchant Taylor's School, Crosby CCF in 1965. The photo was taken during annual camp at RSME Chatham 27 July 1969 - exactly 50 years ago! Tim

An interesting document. I was amused by the underlining on the list of the Emanuel School CCF in which I served from 1966. I may have served under the original owner of the pamphlet!

Huge thanks button.
I'm particularly interested in Royal Liberty and Royal Wanstead schools. This list confirms that they both were still in existence in 1965. Royal Wanstead was closed in 1971 so there's now a six year possible window for an end date, and I have no info for the former. Can anyone shed any further light on dates please, either start or end? |

And to follow from where Tim led, here's me in 1983 with King Edward VI Chelmsford.
I've shared this pic before but will now come forward and confess to being the tenor drummer. I do have one of me in puttees with trousers lightweight en route to annual camp but will have to scan that, so this will do for now.. Anyone else game to share their cadet pics for the units on the list? |

I've now established that the Royal Liberty had grammar school status from 1921 to 1974, and that the CCF existed until 1974. Anyone have any info on when the CCF was formed though?

Royal Liberty CCF
According to the list of CCF units compiled by Derrick Burney and published in 'The Formation Sign' in the late 1980's, Royal Liberty School CCF existed between 1951 and 1972. He consulted the Army Lists for his info and the first listing of CCF units and their (Army) officers appeared in 1950. Presumably there is no entry for the school from 1973 onwards. Regards, Andrew.
