Default WW2 Motto characteristics?

I'm looking to add a 17th/21st Lancers motto to my WW2 RAC collection, but would like to get one that suits the period (e.g. 1930s-40s). What characteristics should I look out for that would fit the bill? Thanks for any assistance with this one.

Since no one has replied, I will give it a go. I am not sure there was a specific WW2 variant of the motto, as all the previous variations since the introduction of it were still in use or issue, even after the war as well.

Thanks, Tim, but the link was 'invalid', whatever that means.

Sorry it is a Private Album. You need to send a friend request to member GriffMJ

I made the original post because I seem to remember various threads on Mottoes where quite period-specific characteristics were pointed out, and I wondered if there were any to watch out for in relation to WW2 versions. If there aren't, so be it. Thanks for your efforts to clarify things, though.

Default GriffMJ 17/21L Motto Albums

There are dozens of examples with maker and date details in GriffMJ’s albums.

Default WWII 17th/21st Lancers badge

I have a 17th/21st Lancers badge which came with medals and other badges to an E.F. Smith 14506529.

The fact he was in the 8th Army and never had an African star makes me think he was posted to Italy after the desert campaign, the badge is not highly polished as he was also in the RECCE probably later.

As to whether this badge was made during WWII or issued from pre war existing stocks I do not know, but certainly worn during that period.

Many thanks for the link (and to Griff for the hard work). The pre-1946 Firmin badges are of particular interest.

General question-have we a date or period when Firmin started marking sliders? I assume post Great War. Or, is it known when they started making other ranks badges? I'm sure this is info. I've read or been told and forgotten! Regards, Paul.
