Guards TRF
Hi,
Can anyone explain the difference between the current TRF's for Household Division and the Brigade of Guards. They look the same to me ? Thanks Gordon

I believe the TRF for both the Guards + Household Div and indeed the guards beret badge backing are indeed all the same size & design.
However, members of the household cavalry attached to 16 air assault brigade wear the larger [65mm sq?] D/Z. T. |

There has been a slight visual difference in size in those that I have come across between what is worn by the HCR and the Foot Guards. (There has also been an improvement with the quality of the finish of the TRFs improving over the years).
This looks-different-to-me size difference in the TRFs is supported in "British Army Badges by Robin Hodges" which quotes dimensions of 7 x 7cm for the HCR TRFs and 6.5 x 4.5cm (obsolete) and 6.25 x 5cm (current) for the Foot Guards TRFs. |

The difference in size of the Household Division flash (TRF) is down to the new badges being made singly and with a merrowed/stitched edge, whereas the older badges came a roll and were cut as required and then sewn on to uniforms and berets as a backing. The beret backing is still cut as required (human error will result in differing widths) and the TRFs issued as they come!

Gordon,
now it would be, before it was used for both! Best regards - Andy |
