NZ Ordnance Buff
Hi Team,
Not a collector as such, but I am currently writing a history of the Royal New Zealand Army Ordnance Corps and it predecessors from 1840 to 1996. I can answer most questions on New Zealand Ordnance badges, but also welcome any feedback or information members may ave on any New Zealand ordnance insignia, patches or other uniform distinctions. Regards |

RNeil,
As a collector of Army Trade & Rank badges from the 19th Century to the mid 20th Century I would love to see any examples you have of NZ Ordnance related badges worn on the arm which you consider Unusual or Special. regards

When it comes to trade patches, the New Zealand Ordnance Corps were probably the most boring and plain Corps ever. Up to 1946 when the New Zealand Electrical and Mechanical Engineers were formed, Ordnance soldiers who were tradesmen, Artificers and such would have worn the standard patches fro their respective trades, I haven't looked into that area much, but will in the future but from what i have seen they were pretty much the same as the British badges but there is the possibility that some were design with a NZ Flabvour. Post 1946 the only trade patch/badge I am aware of is the Flaming 'A" worn by ATO's and Ammo Techs which was introduced in the early 1970s and was the same as the Brit one until 1988 when Fern Fonds were added to give it a NZ Flavour. The only other patches worn would have been standard formation patches, which in its self is a far from simple topic. |
