Default O/T|: need help with a reference on a naval document

Hi,

this is totally off topic / not insignia related, but im not sure where else i could ask and hope someone here can help point me in the right direction to someone who might be able to help, or perhaps there are members here that have an interest / knowledge in such things?

my mother is researching our family history and one of the documents to have turned up is a standard admiralty record form with the mention in the remarks column
"10/- (shillings) Grat for raisg U12
President aug 08".

we know that President was a RNR training ship moored in London, formally HMS Gannet. We arent sure what U12 stands for, but the raising part makes one think salvaging and the U12 was perhaps a submarine that must have sank, but i cant find any reference to this event.

would appreciate any help provided!

best regards, sean

Hi, thanks Aitch, but both submarines mention are from after 1908, the WW1 U12 being launched in 1910, although it was ordered in 1908.

regards, sean
