Default Combined Operations Tally

Hi

I have had this Combined Ops Tally for over 35 years. Is this a ww2 era one?
What is the value of these?

Regards

JB

Hi JB
I don't know anything about these as I've never seen one before, but I am certain it isn't WWII. For security reasons during WWII (unlike WWI) the only cap tally worn just had the letters 'HMS' on them so the sailors units couldn't be identified by spies.
Also, the fairly sloppy finish on the rear was from the manufacturing period around late 60's early 70's I think. I stand to be corrected on these dates though.
Cheers,
Alex

Default Cap tallies

Hi JB,

This website might be able to help....

http://www.nhcra-online.org/19c/captallies.htm

Also have a look at page 2 (click halfway down) to look at the backs of the tallies which could help you date the item.

Whether the full stop after OPS has any significance in this case I don't know, maybe just a punctuation mark after an abbreviation!

Best wishes,
Alan.

Hi,
A friend of mine was RN serving with 40 commando in Malaya in the late 50,s 60,s. He told me that after doing the combined ops course he wore combined ops patches on his jungles and a combined ops cap tally on his cap.

Very helpful folks. I got this tally early 70-ties so fits in with your comments that this may be A 5O-ties or 60-ties item. Is there any interest in these?

Kind regards
JB
