KOSB large and small badges

A example of a scarce KOSB large badge along with a standard size example.
This one has had a lug repaired along the way, and has been bent and vaulted slightly by some squaddie as well. I am led to understand that these badges are ww1 era or possibly earlier.
The standard size badge has the premade electrical clip type lugs rather than the normal copper wire ones. Presume it to be ww2 era.

CB, All we have is two badges, one larger than the other. For those of us who don't know which one is "standard" please tell us which one. And in any case we wouldn't know unless you provided measurements (in mm, EW then NS) or a scale.

My recollection of the KOSB bonnet (when they wore it) was that it bore a badge somewhat larger than the glengarry badge. Is that, perhaps, the distinction between these two ? Regards. David

Actually I presumed the photos to illustrate the difference. I dont know if there is indeed any difference between the badges as worn on the Bonnet relative to those worn on other headress. I rather doubt it. At any rate, any further comment out there regarding this badge as well as the lugs on the standard size badge?

The badge on the left is sometimes described as the 'Edwardian' badge.
The one on the right with the unusual lugs is the 'comon' version, though I've only seen it so far with normal lugs.
The KOSB wore a mixture of Victorian, KC and QC badges, the older the better. Also fretted KOSB badges, both by officers and OR's. I think because most Scottish soldiers tended to wear their great/grand/fathers badges upon enlistment in the same regiment.

Here's my two badges worth.
On the left, the common KC badge, 45 x 66 mm, two repaired lugs EW.
On the right, another WM KC version, 52 x 69 mm, two lugs, EW.
Possibly fake. It has the shape of most fretted badges, though this one is obviously not.
I vaguely remember seeing these once described as shoulder belt pattern badges?

As it happens I live near to the K.O.S.B HQ & Museum at the Barracks in Berwick. I was there yesterday as I like to pop in every couple of months.

The display of badges is astounding mainly because of the reason fougasse1940 mentioned. They [and presumably the RSM] thought nothing of wearing their forefathers badges regardless of crown or rank of the wearer. There is an Arnhem Beret from 7th Bn with a fat VC badge on it! Try selling that on Ebay!

The badges of all shapes and sizes must be a collectors nightmare. Since the Scots Borderers Bn was formed it'll be a lot easier from now on I'm afraid.

Thanks all for the feed back regarding these type of badges. It was certainly not just the KOSB that wore handed down old badges. I believe all the Scottish regiments did this.
