What Is This Surface Finish?
The attached pics are of the Army Apprentices School pipers plaid brooch. The badge is the same dimensions as the cap badge and is made of brass, and attached by three small wires (1 top, 2 bottom). The finish is a 'dull' or matt golden colour, applied one assumes to highlight the whole brooch or to negate the need to clean/polish.
Is there a name for the process to achieve this finish? I have heard of 'gilt wash' and 'frosting'. Any expert advice gladly and most appreciatively accepted. |
