AMF buttons
After coming out of hibernation where car boot sales concerned, picked up these Australian Military Forces buttons.
All are blackened/oxidised. The three 21mm buttons are backmarked L to R:Stokes & Sons. Melb., Plavell(?) V. Melb., A.J.Parkes. Brisbane. All have 2 small drilled holes around circumference. The middle button has a flat-topped crown. The five 17mm buttons are a set, all marked P.J.King Ltd. Melb. Pebbled surface The map of Australia has no boundaries on all buttons. Appreciate any assistance as to time-frame GTB |

Hi GTB
Can I suggest that you post another photo of the buttons with lots more light so we can see what we are looking at. These buttons have many varieties but its hard to say when they were used. Earlier Edward 7th buttons have an ER V11 cypher so these Kings crowned buttons will be KG V and V1 period and were used up to the end of WW2 when gold buttons were introduced. I would say that the first lot of battle dress issued Circa 1914 /5 had flat 4 hole button made from Bakelite (or similar) the domed blackened brass buttons did not come into use till Circa 1917. Sorry that's the best that I can do without better photos. Happy New Year. Phil. |
