hi all,

I would like to find out what badge is this. I assume it could be WW2 or later issue SAAF squadron sweetheart badge?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Timo

The badge of 3 SAAF Bomber Wing.
It was popular in the the North African and Italian campaigns for SAAF squadrons to have their unit insignia made in brass or silver and enamel by local jewellers etc and sold to squadron personnel to wear on the left pocket of their uniform tunic or battledress while "in theatre". I have a virtually complete collection of these badges, which are often the most reliable reference on wartime SAAF squadron badges, since all were designed and approved at squadron level, not upper HQ level so there is very little in the way of official records.
