Badge, Qualification, Surveillance Operators. The letter E has been used because most of the surveillance equipment is Electronic and a badge with an S in Wreath already exists.

Thanks for the quick reply 54Bty. Do you know if this is a current issue badge and the qualifications for wearing it? Is it a Royal Signals badge?

Yes it is still current.
I do not have the qualifications.
No it is not a Royal Signals qualification.

The badge is apparently that of a Surveillance Operator of the Royal Armoured Corps (RAC).

Default E in Wreath

Could it be a modern version of the Control Equipment Technican badge of the REME? This is 2.5" long X 1.5" wide and had the letter E in the centre with a bolt of lightning each side. There was also an R badge and a T badge denoting various trades in the REME. There is a picture of it in my album "BRITISH ARMY TRADE BADGES"

It is listed in the Edwards and Langley book on British Trade and Proficiency Badges in the way I have described, as an RAC related badge and not REME.
