Battalion badges of the London Regiment - Great War
Hi all,
Getting there on a representative Great War 1914/16 set of cap badges and shoulder titles to the battalions of the London Regiment. Trying to cover all ultimately as County of London titles. My thanks again to Longdog (Pat B.) for scouting a good number of these for me, any spares members might have would love to hear from you via PM, cheers Dean. |

I have included the war raised Battalions 29-34 in my display. They wore the RF, RB and KRRC badges.

Thanks Alan I have had little knowledge of these additional badges until your reply. What shoulder titles did they wear - the parent regiment ? Cheers Dean

I don't know but as they were raised late war then it may well have been cloth.

I read somewhere that the 33rd London didn't wear a S/T. I was doing some research to display a 33rd medal pair with the RB cap badge and was wondering which S/T they wore.

24th Battalion were badged as Queen's RWS with corresponding 24 titles, were they not?

The cap badges for the 17th and 19th battalions are occupying each other's positions too. I see Dean, that you have included the 27th Battalion, but not the 26th. JT Last edited by Jelly Terror; 23-05-17 at 11:58 AM. |

Thanks JT,
Ok maybe next time I put badges on a board I might put my glasses on. Shall correct - put 25th and 28th on but not 26th or 27th? Cheers Dean |

The 26th and 27th never actually joined the London Regiment so they do not belong on it if you are being pure. The WW1 raised battalions are little known about as they had a short existence and have been forgotten by the badge collecting books.

They were allowed to retain their original titles. JT Last edited by Jelly Terror; 23-05-17 at 01:34 PM. |

I think their opposition was even stronger than that and at no point were they ever part of the London regiment ORBAT at all.
This is a great read about the Inns of Court OTC, for they remained an OTC with a cavalry and infantry companies and not a conventional Battalion structure, - Page 41 is a fascinating insight into the way that they recruited pre-war. https://archive.org/stream/innsofcou...ge/40/mode/2up The 1911 Army List shows the London Regt's 26 Bns on page 546. The Inns of Court are on the next page as an Indpt unit in their own right. https://archive.org/stream/hartsannu...ondon+regiment The HAC remain an Indpt Artillery unit on page 243.
