Default Royal Irish Regiment WW1

I acquired these two at Bangor this morning. Very happy with the price. Would be very confident of their originality as they both have the right tell tale signs and the dealer is a very reputable one. However the Royal Irish Regiment has broken lugs/ slider and has been broached at some time. However I'm more than happy with it. Does anyone know what the correct fastners should be? Also is there anyone who can repair, or is it worth doing?

John

Great badges Wilf, quick question as I know nought on collar badges and shoulder titles... that grenade why's is it there - did the RIReg wear a grenade as part of their shoulder title/if so do you know why?

Cheers,

Luke

Hi Luke, Ignore that picture, the Royal Irish didn't wear a grenade with their title, only the Dubs, Munsters, IF, & the Skins. The pic is down to me having more grenades than the titles at the time I scanned the badges !!! Sorry for the confusion, Wilf.

Default RIR badge repair.

Thanks for the advice. I got the two for £40 which I thought was ok. I might just leave it alone and keep an eye out for another. It's mounted up on my board with a bit of fine fuse wire and looks just fine. At least it's original. Anyone know where I could get a shoulder title?
Glad you didn't leave the site Luke. Your knowledge is pretty sound.
Regards

John

Thanks John, its thanks to a lot of people on here that I know what little I do. I agree with you on leaving it as it is, the price someone will charge to repair that properly I'd sooner have another undamaged one.

Peter Taylor has a RIR in his list for £35 which seems very reasonable to me... you can find his link on the recommended dealers link on the forum homepage.

Hi Conor,
Try Peter Taylor, Lew Shotton aka Clanfield Militaria or Warren Butcher. Or else a trip to Bangor next weekend might yield one. I got mine repaired and a fantastic job done. Not expensive either.
