Indian - Hot or Not?
This one will be up for disposal so please don't contribute if you object to the Forum being used for sale items. Thoughts on this one please? I know these badges sewn to BD material are often dodgy, but this one looks quite nice? Smells like the clothing stores and the three bands of stitching on the body of the horse looks well done? Thanks in advance Andy |

I think it is too well made for a good period badge.
Of course I could be wrong. Marc |

I would think that was actually made quite recently, I don't like it at all.

Why not remove it from the spurious khaki? The value is in the badge and not the cloth backing. If it's genuine then the value will be the same; of course if the cloth is hiding its fake back then you will be a loser.

..... and the back!
Not the normal spaghetti? Andy |

Interesting! Machine made and the detail of Pegasus's wings is far greater than the comparatively crude printed signs. And the position of INDIA is very different - on the printed sign the I is under the nose not under the hooves.

Although not a test I usually use, but does it glow under UV? Not too happy with the backing, if fairly recent it'll glow.

He means it is a 'grey bear' product. Nice bit of pig latin.

It's a common replica I'm afraid, not sure if Greybear is involved.

Many thanks to all that have offered an opinion, whilst I am happy to accept It is probably a copy, to term it common when it is a badge some cloth collectors have never encountered is probably not the best description! Hopefully now it has been identified others can steer clear of it in the future?
Thanks again Andy |

Hello Andy,
I think what Luc is saying to you, is whilst an original example of this particular woven badge is actually rather rare (the printed ones are far more common) a copy, in particular, this copy, is quite common. When I first saw the photo in your post, a glance at the front was enough for me, hence my reply, an original would look very different, the thickness and colour of the thread used to embroider the horse would be very noticeably different. Kind regards Frank |
