1st Armoured Regiment - 1950s
Here's some pictures of the 1st Armoured Regiment during the 1950s.
They wore a chrome Rising Sun badge on their black berets from 1949 to 1954. In 1954 they received their regimental hat badge. Enjoy! Mick

Thanks for these, Mick -- a fascinating glimpse at an 'in-between' period in badges. My sister's father-in-law was an officer in the regiment about this time; he had been in BCOF with the Armoured Car Squadron and was attached to one of the RAR battalions in Korea. I have his mess dress from just after this period, but alas no other insignia.

No worries mate.
What I'm trying to also ascertain is if they wore the KC 1AR collar badge as a beret badge any time between 1949 and 1954. Mick

Is the formation sign that of 1 Inf Bde Gp? (Crossed swords above a boomerang, in gold on red shield on khaki rectangle)

Yes it is.
I think later they may have worn the Southern Command flash but I'm still to confirm this. Mick
