158 Aust Gen Tpt Coy
Hi All,
I am wondering if anyone can please help me with a photo/drawing of the 158 Australian General Transport Company colour patch from WWII (1943). I cannot seem to find it in any searches I am doing here. Regards, Matt |

As far as I know 158 Aust Gen Tpt Coy will not have had its own unique colour patch, but if, as seems possible, it was a component of 7 Aust Div it will have worn the 7 Aust Div AASC patch - a diamond divided vertically white/blue on a grey 2 AIF border. But the Coy may have been Corps troops. The Coy was involved in a tragic incident on 7 Sep 43 when a USAAF B-24 Liberator bomber crashed onto some of the Coy's vehicles carrying soldiers from 2/33 Aust Inf Bn.

Think you may find they were part of Line of Communication Area Motor Transport Units AASC. So likely to have worn the New Guinea L of C patch.

Thanks guys, I will keep trying to do some more digging. We need to try and make sure we have the correct colours for the presentation.
The reason we are hunting for it is exactly as the reason listed. My grandfather was Captain 2/33 Aus Inf Bn & was there on the day of the crash. As a young Lt. he had to lay out the body parts of his men for identification. This year is the 70th anniversary of the crash, and there is a memorial service at the AWM September 6th (one day earlier). |

GRO 663/1942 covered the patches for L of C Area MTUs. Patches were worn by:
General Transport Companies Car Companies and Platoons Ambulance Car Companies Bridge Companies The NG L of C version was: A Square divided horizontally blue over green. Surmounted by a blue square with a white triangle in the centre. Phil
