Default Mystery Army

Okay, I know this is not stricty British or Commonwealth, but it's a slow Saturday night on the forum and I thought this might provide a little light entertainment for those of us still awake.

The question is: can anybody tell me the nationality of the gunner in the photo? (I erased the badge from the front of the helmet).

You may turn over you papers... NOW!

In 1926 for the Irish Army the British firm Vickers produced a design which was almost identical to the WW1 German M1918 pattern and in all 10,021 helmets were made and used until 1940.

There's no fooling you blokes... Guinnesses all round.

Well done, and thanks for having a stab at it.

Cheers,

A BIG clue was that the erased badge was on the FRONT of the helmet.

I suppose it was really.

My naivety in thinking the photo might be a bit more of a toughie than it actually was.

Even without the "Coal scuttle" helmets, I have always thought the uniforms in the attached recruiting poster which is in The (Irish ) Defence Forces Handbook have a German "feel" to them.
