Hello David
In your previous post you said - "It's not all bad news, just think how much some of the buttons you paid pence for in the past are worth now. Unfortunately, that really isn't of much significance unless you decide to sell them!" I have only ever collected military buttons because I liked them and the history behind them. Their value (or lack of it years ago) was never a consideration, as many others on this Forum feel I am sure. My problem is that no one in my family is at all interested in them! Two sons are both into militaria but British Second World War stuff. My daughter would love to get her hands on them but only so she could sell them off to buy dogs or horses or something! I won't sell them, so perhaps I should be buried with them! Roger |

Hi Roger
I've always collected for the same reasons as you, never for monetary reasons or with the aim of selling on at a profit. That said, I think you have to maintain some idea of value/worth to avoid being taken for a ride when purchasing items; or for insurance purposes if nothing else. I collect a wide range of Police & Military insignia and would like to think, as I'm sure many Forum members would, that they will remain intact when I'm gone. Realistically, that's not going to happen. Certain sections of my collection will find a good home, the rest will probably end up at auction. Sad, but when that happens it won't be of much concern to me! David |
