I think it is a salamander which I'm told were the name of the raiding jeeps the LRDG used to use in North Africa.

Badge is fake and I doubt anyone in the desert in 43 had enough time to run off, carefully sculpt a reptile, lost wax or sand cast it, and then cast it properly, add a badge which at that point was very new, (even harder seeing as that "style" of badge did not come around until the 60s.... :/ ) and then finish it all up nicely.... anyone would think they didn't want to fight in a war.... Couldn't even finish TUNISI A, maybe they got confused between Tunisia and Tunis?
Sorry, wouldn't touch it, it's certainly a fantasy piece... Tom |

Salamander
From what I have read about the LRDG, they were more involved with road watching than raiding. Most vehicles in the photos that exist are invariably Chevrolet trucks, they may well have had jeeps, but as for this item, a product of a fertile mind in my opinion.

Made post-WW2, but a neat looking item and would sit well in an exhibition or display, I like it Regards, Clive.
