Default help appreciated

Following a ' heads up ' from a friend, I acquired this title, described as and bought as, 7th London Cadet Corps Battalion ?

Undoubtedly the real deal but if it is in Westlake, I cannot find it ?

Can I have your thoughts please ??

Thanks in advance.

Dave.

Dave,

I dont know what it is only to say that CC's are usually affiliated to a Regiment rather than a City.

The LONDON is of a Red Cross size rather than Military. Having said that its not Red Cross.

I think CCB means something else.

regards

The London regiment was/is a regiment and the 7th Londons were a London regt Battalion from 1908 onwards.

Individual London regt battalions were affiliated to School or Cadet bn cadet corps as can be seen in this document from 1913- https://archive.org/stream/hartsannu...e/532/mode/2up

Although the 7th London's cadet affiliation is not shown the 6th Bn does show theirs.

Alan,
Yes, you are right, of course it is. What I should have said is that the LONDON title does not appear to be that of a Regiment, rather that of a City/Town similar to a BRCS title.

I would anticipate that a title of that type, ie CC is pre the 1908 OTC, ie - prior to the existance of the London Regiment (TF).

regards

I am sure that it is not the 7th London Cadet Bn. mentioned in Army Order July 1912 ( copy attached ) and nothing in Westlake "Register of T.F. Cadet Units " seems to fit, but it does show the vast range of Cadet units raised before and during WW1 of which we seem to have little information beyond in most cases a unit name.

P.B.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts gentlemen,

It looks as though I have bought myself a very expensive Church Lads title rather than the Fusiliers title although on reflection and according to Westlake, the initials would have read CLB and not CCB so I will keep my options open and of course hope it is Cadets and not Church Lads.

Please keep sharing your opinions.

Dave.

That's very interesting !

I'm still confused ( nothing new there then ), I have seen school cadet company, cadet company, cadet corps, cadet battalion, battalion cadet force but I have yet to find out what CCB stands for other than the original description, cadet corps battalion ?

In other words and this might well be me folk but would there be a corps battalion ???

Dave,

No.
A CC cannot be a Battalion as well.

Regards

Default Shoulder title

Dave,
Your title is for the 7th Battalion, London Church Cadet Brigade.
From 1892 the Church Lads' Brigade and the London Diocesan Church Lads' Brigade ran as separate, rival organisations.
In 1918, the London Diocesan Church Lads' Brigade changed its name to the Church Cadet Brigade of the Diocese of London; this organisation was very short lived, as in 1919, the CCB amalgamated with the CLB, and the London battalions and companies became the 'London Division of the Church Lads' Brigade'.
Around 1935, the London Division of the Church Lads' Brigade was renamed to become the Church Lads' Brigade, London Regiment.
I would consider the title you have to be very rare, and therefore money well spent!
George
(Thanks to Johnny Conn whose info I have summarised)

Thank you George,

I am in awe of some people's knowledge yourself and John have done me proud, really appreciated.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help and thanks to Andy for the original ' heads up ' ! I do have a few CLB pieces, a sort of part time collection and despite this title being bought for any London Regiment connection, I am just as happy to bang it in my smaller CLB collection.

It's nice to own something " rare ", I am a happy little bunny this morning ??

Dave.

Hi Gents,

Great fun to watch this mystery unfold and finally be solved. Well done to all.

I'm sure there are a lot of collectors like myself who have nothing to add but get a great deal of enjoyment (and knowledge) at just watching the thread develop.

Best wishes, Roy.
