Default RMA Officer in charge of RGA?

Hi there.
Just looking for confirmation that this picture shows a Royal Marine officer with his gunners from the Orkney Royal Garrison Artillery.

The lapel badges look RM but I am not well-versed enough to be sure that his cap badge is RM..
All thoughts welcome

Thanks!

He seems to be wearing a standard Royal Artillery OSD (Bronzed) cap badge and grenade collar dogs.

Fair enough!

This lot are "1st Orkney Territorials in Stromness, date unknown."

But if not a Marine officer, makes it most likely pre-war and post 1908. The Marines took over all the coast batteries in Orkney during WWI and the Orkney RGA were disbanded, some joining the RMA, some sent to the Western Front.

Does that date range make sense with the uniform(s)?

A few batteries were manned by Territorials with Marines for officers, and one near Stromness was one of those.

Thanks for the help chaps.

That pattern of officers SB tunic dates it to close to 1900. I forget when officers went into open necked coats.

The Officers SD Jacket looks to be the second version worn from 1904-1913, with twisted cord shoulder straps and cuff rank stars.
