Default Volunteer Artillery, HAC, Who & What is it?

Hello,

I have had this badge for a while and hadn't given it much thought but I am going to sell it now, but cant decide what it is.

Its a silvered grenade with integral hook for what I presume is for a chain.

But I cant workout what its off, ie - a cap, a cloak or something else.

Also I initially thought it was probably Volunteer Artillery but may not be.

As you can see it has 4 loops to the rear.

Any ideas?

regards

Simon
It is part of the Cloak chain, the opposite part will have the badge part with 3 lugs, then a chain of about 7 ringlets. The Grenadier Guards is the same but in gilding metal, and this pattern was in use in the Crimea.

Andy,

Thanks for that. Just checked The Militia Artillery book by Norman Litchfield and they are illustrated, c. 1854, so much earlier than I thought and pre Artillery Vols.

thanks
