Default CP Applied Shield

Hi Neil,

All look fine to me, however, the OR's cap badge with the applied shield has been the topic of much discussion.

I have one of these in my CP album, along with a bronze OSD collar and a silver and enamel cap badge, both of which have the same shape and type of applied central charge, demi lions and hulks- which are wired on. These also all have the same distinctive round font on the lower scroll. This all leads me to believe that the 'skull die' is fine.

As to the B/M badge itself, I believe that it has an applied centre as it is taken from the same die as the other two which also have applied central charges. In this case though it is secured differently. Whether it is a fake or a genuine OR's badge cut from this officers die, I do not know. This is just my view, but it might at least explain why this two part example exists for what was otherwise a one piece die pressed OR's badge.

I hope this helps,

Kind Regards,

Pete

The Officer badge in silver is interesting. I have seen one like this on a dealer site and described as having been made by a German jeweler after the war when the regiment was stationed in Germany.
Cheers,
Alex

Thanks for your responses the idea of the silver officer badge would make sense the shield shape around the makers mark is unusual but other german made british badges I have are marked 800 for the metal standard

Difficult to see the mark clearly but the listing on the site says it is 'Silvet', the German spelling for silver. I will PM you a link.
