Simple question, does anyone know if the MSO personnel were entitled to be buried in a British Military Cemetery with official headstone?. Just curious but I would like to think they were.

Hi Hoot - to qualify for a WW2 CWG headstone - you had to have died between the 3 Sept 1939 > 31 Dec 1947. I'm not sure when the MSO were formed (immediately after the end of WW2?) - but had anyone died within that time frame then I think they would almost certainly have qualified under "Category 3 - Personnel who died in certain civilian organisations such as Merchant Navy, Home Guard, War Correspondents, BOAC " - the list is by no means exhaustive. There are a number of British Military Cemeteries in Germany which post date WW2 and are 'owned' by the Ministry of Defence. They are distinct from, but sometimes adjacent to, Commonwealth War Grave Cemeteries and in most cases maintained by the CWGC.
The burials in British Military Cemeteries include British military personnel and dependents.
The MSO were based in most BAOR garrisons so it is possible that there are some MSO graves in British Military Cemeteries.

There was the Civil Mixed Watchman Service and the Civilian Mixed Labour Organisation then in 1959, both organisations were merged into the Mixed Service Organisation (MSO).

Sorry Tim, I should have been more clear. I meant the post-WW2 era and the BAOR burials under the MoD.
