I agree, based on Griff's images, the ebay example is just bent to the left. The stalk is the wrong shape, not curved nicely.

I have seen lots of right facing badges but this one has been bent to the left imo. I have not seen any photos of a facing pair of collars either.

Alan,
It’s perhaps one of the subtle things not seen unless you look for it but I don’t recall ever seeing a left facing stalk. Have looked through nearly a dozen threads showing numerous badges on loops and they’re all stalk facing viewers right. Luke P.S. or was that a typo and you meant lots of right facing stalks and this one has been bent to the left? |

If that is indeed the case, one is left wondering who the particular pair of pliers concerned, actually belong to?

Thought I’d show three that I’ve got close to hand. My other S&W badge is in a tin somewhere.
First is made by Smith & Wright Birmingham so I believe to be WW1 vintage. Second I think is an officer’s gilt cap/collar. Third another OR makers variation. Last edited by Luke H; 03-12-18 at 12:52 AM. Reason: Added extra pictures |

SIH badge, stalk left!!
Hi,
just to add my tuppence worth. I've only seen one SIH badge with a left curved stalk, see image attached. However it's worth noting that the end of the stalk has its 'cut' end facing down, suggesting that it's a 'normal' SIH badge that's had it's stalk bent to the left...... bit of a minefield as normal. The SIH badge in question looks for all the world to be of the same ilk, in that it's had its stalk bent to the left and twisted as well. I didn't bid on it either. |
