Quite simply,
The RBL is both a charity and a business which has paying members, the benefits of been a paying member (as I have had nothing else for the past 30+ years) I would have thought would be communication and to inform members of events, offers etc, so you are correct that I was unable to react in a timely manner simply because I was out of the country because the RBL never flagged it up, its funny that they can communicate with no problems when it comes to asking for my annual membership fee when I'm out of the country, that will of course be a different department to the shop so I hope that you can now understand where I'm coming from irrespective of wherever you agree or not. That said I do agree with you that the demand took them completely by surprise which in its self does not say much for their market research and ability to run the business side of things, a failure to capitalise on generating the maximum potential funds to support the charity I think. As I have already said, congratulation's to those people (no hard feelings towards them at all) that have procured an example for posterity and not re-sale and of course I'm pleased to see that the RBL will be in receipt of the dividends from all the sales. I have now said my bit and will leave it at that as if not we will be going round and round in circles. Kind Regards, FMT600 Quote:

I do see where FMT is coming from. If I was a member of any organisation/society selling items of this nature I would have expected to be notified well before non-members and given the chance to purchase. Only then would I have expected items to be offered for sale to the 'general public'.
That said, it is obviously a matter of opinion and best to agree to disagree I think! Other than that I think we are all in agreement that it is wrong for these poppies to be re-sold on ebay at such exorbitant prices. It just seems so disrespectful to those who gave their lives on the 1st July 1916. Hopefully ebay have blocked their sale and will continue to do so. For once, well done ebay! Roger |

LOL, I'm afraid, sadly, only a simple grammatical error, the Welsh language is very clearly far from simple!
Frank Kelley, I think you meant to type RBL instead of RLB, or is that another Welsh mutation? Eddie[/QUOTE] |

I have to say whilst I like and respect the RBL as an organisation, I do not like to see "their" emblem ever being "commercialised" or used for any political purpose.
I remember M&S selling an attractive metal and enamel poppy a couple of years ago in all their stores and only giving a very small percentage of the monies from there sale to the RBL, despite them being sold in RBL branded packaging. I think it is a little sad to see so many differing poppies, with differing meanings, to differing groups of people, being sold these days, by a number of differing sellers and companies, some for purely financial gain with no monies going to the RBL. Tomorrow, I will be wearing the same normal paper poppy that I wore in November last and my thoughts will be with the British Army and in particular the casualties incurred one hundred years ago. |

Here is a chance for somebody that missed out on the 1st July dedicated poppies to get one, as long as you are happy with the terms.
This is nothing whatsoever to do with me. "My" poppy is in my display case, and is staying there. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=381739934961

I know what you mean about it being sad that it is being re-sold, and so soon. However, on the bright side, whoever first had it paid the Royal British Legion the full price, and the person selling it now is giving them 30% of the money raised

Yes I hadn't looked at it that way really, still a degree of profiteering depending how much it goes for I suppose. Anyway glad I got mine at last and the brooch was a nice gesture.

This means that the Royal British Legion did better out of this poppy the second time around than they did at first. They will get £60, when they first sold it for £50. Come to think of it, they did even better than that, as the £60 is all "bunce". To get the £50, they had to pay to have the items made in the first place.

Ah, I see there are two types: "Somme 100 Poppy Lapel Pin", and "Somme 1916 Poppy Lapel Pin".
1st batch for the 1st July, new batch 2nd July onward. |

I believe that it has now been sold. Either that, or the link I gave is faulty.

When these first started appearing on ebay (being sold by persons other than the British Legion, that is) the listings were being ended by ebay as they were said to infringe their rules. Perhaps that is what has happened here.
