Well...of course ebay have legit material...sometimes cheap, sometimes expensive, sometimes adecuade prize...the problem for people as I is the poor knowledge we have...we need learning more, so until that moment I personally prefer to buy in here and someday I will go hunting to ebay with more criteria...not now but someday!

Not that one, I was watching it but didn’t bid. Far too rich for my blood. It went for £77 if memory serves?

Mine was a very lucky Buy It Now just a few days later at less than 1/3 of the price.

The Lpl Pals (is a copy?) of the (last) 1917 Pattern - die struck with slider.
If the MGC is genuine - it is the very first type (has rings at the bottom)

Yes, there are howlers out there

BUT I still (sometimes sadly) refuse to buy anything that does not a photograph of the reverse!

The Liverpool Pals is an unmarked BP&Co badge, quite genuine

As you know BP were awarded badge contracts in 1917 so it dovetails nicely there.

The MGC is genuine as are the rest.

One of the things that gets me is that you assume these people wouldn't dream of going down to the corner shop and robbing it, but are quite happy to con people this way. Hypocrites.

It's a valid point but one of the honest full-time sellers that I know always uses private listings.

I recently bought possibly one of the rarest badges in existence on ebay because I know how many were made and there would be nowhere near that tiny number still in existence.
A lot of people just have little knowledge of certain badges and patches.

Could I venture to ask why?

Does the word "gold" always feature in his user names?

He has a number of dealers and collectors that bid on items that don't wish to have their names or usernames shown.
I have known some dodgy people that also use private listings so it's a double-edged sword.

Many thanks for the explanation, yes, I can see why this is done, but I have always said "First come, first served", if someone beats me to buying a badge(s) I certainly don't lose any sleep about it.

Back in the dark ages when Hugh King sent out lists by post, I used to phone him about badges only to be told "sorry it's gone old boy", badges are like buses, if you wait often another one comes along . . !

Some items rarely come along if ever. Some badges can be so rare that the vast majority of people have no idea how rare or significant they are.
I once sniped a rare badge on ebay for £280 but was out sniped which was amusing. A few months later I was offered a similar badge privately for about £100 but that was cheap.
