There is a similar badge selling for approx £100..... I thought the white metal plate and painted cross was "duff" .... but it turns out to be original

AHC & MSC badges
Many thanks for the instruction - hopefully I will now have attached an image of the SJAA voided cross medallion of 1881!
The last post includes a badge with silvered background and painted cross but no name? What one is this? Alan |

Hi Tinto,
Thanks for posting images of your AHC and MSC. My AHC has also lost its top part of crown and exhibits the same mount of wear as yours (from polishing I presume) and I believe this is a genuine example. Alex's example also shows a fair amount of polishing. As for the MSC, yes this one is very much copied and I unfortunately cannot tell the difference between genuine ones and copies. However if I compare the AHC versions with the MSC version, I would expect the MSC examples to also have a fare amount of ware and tear(polishing included). Most of them seem very crisp and also rather flat. Having said that Tinto your MSC may well be one of the copies. Alan as far as I know the shortlived MSC did not have a badge and the AMD were all officers wearing bicorns without badges. Regards Steven |
