Default Badge Value

Hi All
Could someone please give me an approximate value for an Army Hospital Corps helmet plate (?), KK 1999 I think. I don't have a pic but about half the size of a standard O/R's helmet plate, in brass, QVC, with a cross shaped void in the centre. Same design as the Medical Staff Corps badge.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Alex

Hi Alex. If you get a photo of this, I would be very interested to see it. Sorry I can't help with the evaluation tho'...but a word of warning : the equivalent "Medical Staff Corps" badge (K&K 998) is widely faked. Regards Jeff

Default Army Hospital Corps

Hi Jeff
Here are a couple of photos that I got my friend who owns the badge to send me. It looks good to me, but I may be wrong.
Cheers,
Alex

Hi Alex. Thanks for that. Yes,it looks fine to me, but I'm no expert on restrikes..it just looks genuine to me !?
However, did you know that this is in fact a Glengarry badge c.1878 to 1884. The design was based on the larger helmet plates then being introduced. Still can't price it for you I'm afraid, but congratulations on a good purchase (if it is say £30 or less).

I would draw your attention to this well known purveyor of rare badges who has vast quantities of them.

Hi guys
Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately it isn't mine, just posting for a friend, but the badge he has looks good to me, far better than the e-bay listing...
Cheers,
Alex

Hi Alex,
I realise this response is 2 years on but I thought I should help out with your request. My interist is medical insignia and what the replies have failed to notice is that this is not a 'Medical Staff Corps' glengarry badge, but in fact the earlier (zulu war period) "ARMY HOSPITAL CORPS" glengarry badge and as such extremely rare. All the fakes I have seen are of the "Medical Staff Corps" badge.

I have one of these in my collection, but in very poor condition and it has a silver wash over it that I am not sure who, what or when this was done.

Regards
Steven

Hi Steven
Never too late to add information, thanks for the reply. I'm glad you added that info anyway, because I am now the owner of the AMC badge, so it was obviously a good buy.
Welcome to the forum.
Cheers,
Alex

Default a senior moment

Hi Steven.
Yes, sorry about that (another of my "Senior Moments" I'm afraid), anyway thanks for clarifying the issue. (but I did get the dates right didn't I ?)
Here is the "Medical Staff Corps" repro mentioned earlier. Not a bad copy at £8, tho' the genuine article from Bosleys/Buywyze is currently priced at £125, so I wonder how much your "Army Hospital Corps" badge is worth Alex !

The verdigris(?) on the badge looks to have been caused by covering it in salt and leaving it out in the garden for a week.

Just for interest's sake, would there have been a coloured backing cloth behind the voided cross on the original?

Hi All,
Here are mine for comparison. I believe they are genuine but stand to be corrected. The Army Hospital Corps has lost top part of crown.
Cheers, Tinto

Default AHC & MSC badges

Hi

I have just seen this thread and have two questions, the first is the easy one! I do have a MSC badge - 2 1/2" x 2 1/4" and 16.5 gms - how can I tell if it is a copy?

Second question is about the early St John Ambulance Association medallion and its possible link with the AHC badge (the founders of SJAA were military men). Most medallions had the 8 pointed cross, but a very few of the first 1881-1883 had a cut out cross similar to the AHC (the MSC not yet in being). I cannot see how to attach an image or would include one. Did the shortlived MSC pre AHC have a similar badge, and did the AMD also have a similar badge? Any thoughts on the possible copy of the cut out design? Many thanks for any comments or ideas.

Alan
PS - how do you copy an image onto here?
