Unknown Scottish Badge
Hopefully a learned friend can identify the attached badge, when I zoom into the picture it appears to show the writing "The Royal Scots", the badge design is the same as the RS but it's the centre that has me stumped.
I have been searching the net for answers and drew a blank. Help Thanks Gerry |

Can you elaborate a bit more detail on your reply Please. When you as it was never issued, who would have issued it and to who, if it was a fantasy to what purpose was it serve? Kind regards Hiram

Peter, it is Pontius Pilate, one of the Royal Scots nicknames was Pontius Pilates bodyguard. I have seen 2 or 3 of these over the years.

As I said it was not an official design but made commercially to sell to collectors.

Alan,
In light of your response, do we know who produced it (Maker period etc), you say it was produced for collectors, does anyone else on the forum have a similar example? Gerry |

As said the badge is a fantasy piece based on the Royal Scots famous nickname, so I’d say made as a item for maybe old soldiers of the regiment as a lapel badge or similar ( just an educated guess )also it’s got the red central backing as worn by the 1st battalion Royal Scots if that’s got any bearing on anything?? as to when made I don’t know , I’ve seen similar badges and pieces over the years, if you ( if you haven’t already) type in Pontius Pilate in the search box there are a few threads on the subject.
