Default RN Electrician's badge "L"

During the 60s when I was a PO Electrician, I had a badge with 4 flashes and an "L" in the centre, while the Radio lads had the same 4 flashes but with an "R" in the centre (which made sense).
My question is; Where did the "L" come from???

Hi Chester

“L” is the forces shorthand for Electrical or Electronic: when I was a crab I was Electronics Mechanic Air Defence (later became a Technician), abbreviated to L Mech AD/L Tech AD.

Hope this helps

Graham

We used to call them Lecies, so maybe that is where the L comes from
