Default Malaya prisons

Hey

Not sure which section this should go in I had posted it to the prison section but this is possibly colonial

I wondered if this was for the period when singapore was part of malaysia ?

The image on the front I can see is like the singapore image

I can't see this button listed anywhere else

Any thoughts or confirmation welcome

Hi Tarabelle,
Your button is post Colonial so post 1959.Singapore was for a short period of time a part of the Federation of Malay States before gaining total independance. It has a wonderful history and would suggest you look it up in Wikipedia.
Kind regards Bantam

Hi Bantham

Yes I've had a look and I wondered was this button and the image of a palm tree and tiger used when Singapore was still part of the federation as this isnt the current malaya prison service image and I cant see another example online it's also made by Firmin

Aha !

So these buttons might have been from back in the 50s 60s cos those other buttons have the malaya language on them the one I'm looking at has English on it but doesnt have a british crown soooooo it must have been used after independence and before they started using malay language
Theres buttons with same image that use English and then Malay (see images) I think because this is in english it must be an early pattern of button and it might be before singapore left as the current image for the prisons is crossed keys

Described as :

Quote:
1953-1965 ERA BRITISH SINGAPORE PRISON SERVICE UNIFORM CAP BADGE
https://www.jbmilitaryantiques.com.a...orm-cap-badge/

Note : 1953 date would be due to Queen's crown.
