Default Major Gillman - Kings African Rifles

I’m looking for any information on a Major Francis Gillman who served in Burma with the Kings African Rifles in WW2. I’m hoping to help a friend who is his grandson - many thanks in anticipation Tim

Is it because he’s KAR that the records are difficult to access?

Probably so. It also depends on which battalion your man served with. The 1st and 2nd Bns were recruited from present day Malawi (in those days Nyasaland). Others from Uganda and Tanganyika (present day Tanzania) or other east African countries. One may well have to write to those governments for such information.

From IWM :
Quote:
The Battalion was again re-designated as 6th (Tanganyika Territory) Battalion The King's African Rifles on 1st June 1943 following a re-numbering of the KAR battalions.
